Leon Camier has criticised the decision to continue racing during the second World Superbike race at the Nurburgring after missing out on a potential podium finish.

The Ashford rider had been enduring a difficult weekend in the dry aboard the Aprilia Alitalia having laboured to eighth in race one, but looked to be heading for a more favourable race two result having risen to fifth in atrocious weather conditions.

However, Camier would become one of the riders to succumb to the worsening conditions, crashing on lap twelve at the Schumacher-S having been running ahead of Jakub Smrz. The race was eventually stopped on lap 14, with Smrz classified as third.

Disappointed with the result, Camier was particularly frustrated that the race was not stopped before he and a handful of other riders came down.

“It was truly dangerous to run race two,” said Camier. “There were puddles everywhere, visibility was terribly reduced and the situation got worse lap after lap. Other riders also had trouble in the turn where I slid.

“There was a virtual river running across the asphalt. It’s a shame, I think they could have stopped the race earlier given the track conditions, but there’s no use complaining about it now.”

Camier retains sixth position in the standings, 22 points behind Leon Haslam.
